Our brave Julianna was officially diagnosed with Moyamoya disease In October 2023. Moyamoya is a rare disorder caused by the narrowing or blockage of the internal carotid arteries, which supply blood to the brain. This condition brings risk of transient ischemic attacks mini-strokes/strokes or can even be fatal
We as parents were devastated by this news but we were determined to do everything in our power to help our daughter. We sought out the best medical care and worked tirelessly to find the best treatment options for Juli.
After much research and consultation with specialists,we decided that Encephaloduroarteriomyosynangiosis (EDAMS) surgery was the best option for Juli. This complex and delicate surgery involves rerouting blood vessels from the scalp to the surface of the brain, improving blood flow and reducing the risk of stroke.
December 2023, Juli underwent EDAMS surgery, and now she is in the recovery stage. She was brave enough to go home the next day. These last few months have been challenging, and the road to recovery is long and arduous, but Juli is resilient. She is determined to fight against the odds and reclaim her life from the clutches of Moyamoya disease. The love and encouragement from her family, the support from her friends, and the care of her medical team is giving her the strength and determination to push forward.
Since her diagnosis we decided to start an awareness campaign called JulisJourney. We wanted to spread awareness about Moyamoya disease and other rare illnesses, and to offer support and encouragement to other families going through similar struggles. The logo of JulisJourney is a tribute to Juli's strength and resilience - two awareness ribbons forming a heart, one ribbon blue for Moyamoya, and the other ribbon zebra, symbolizing rare diseases.
The outpouring of support and love from the community is liftingJuli's spirits and giving her the strength to keep fighting. Every message, every visit, and every small act of kind serves a beacon of hope during her darkest moments
Thank you all for your love prayers and continued support
